Torturing Myself by Playing Elden Ring
But I am a masochist. Gimme the pain!
VIDEO GAME REVIEWS

Playing Elden Ring as a beginner to the soul-type game is actually more fun than I expected. I expected two things, that I would die a lot, and I would be frustrated and leave the game. Luckily, only the former is true. Every time I die, instead of getting frustrated, I get excited. Yep, ya didn’t see it wrong, I was excited to die, for the lack of a better word.
Though I did mostly survive by spamming the B button to fatroll, that’s beside the point. The enemies (well, the small enemies) are quite easy to lure out or ignore. And the big enemies, especially the legends, are super fun to fight. I die at least ten times each time I encounter a boss, so defeating them felt so satisfying. So satisfying that I wanted to beat them again just to experience the feeling of being victorious over the bastard who threw me off the bridge ten times.
The horse mechanics are awesome. I’m playing as an Astrologer, so learning spells and trying different combinations of spells are fun. Especially when I cast the spell with my wand while I was riding the horse, galloping around the enemies. I am a fan of incantations more than sorcery though.
The only critique, and I think this is more of a super subjective nitpick, is that sometimes the game expects me to parkour, but the margin of error is so small that I doubt myself if I even took the right parkour path. But that’s just me not used to these types of games.
Overall, I think this game is oddly relaxing. I truly think there’s something wrong with me. But, now I want to play other games from From Software. Maybe I’ll start with Demon Souls then continue from there.
9/10 game.
